College Planning Checklist - Senior Year
 

June - August
[  ] Have 5 or 6 schools in mind that you'd like to attend.
[  ] Compile your resume - include awards, activities, honors, and job experience.

September
[  ] Talk to your counselor and start gathering applications
[  ] Begin work on application essays.
[  ] Register to take or re-take the SAT or ACT if necessary.

October
[  ] Review application deadlines with your counselor.
[  ] Mail early-action or decision applications.
[  ] Begin searching for scholarships. (Fastweb.com or Scholarships on BHS Pilot Center Web Page)

November
[  ] Finish writing your essays and have them reviewed by a teacher or parent.
[  ] Request letters of recommendation from teachers, employers or sponsors.
[  ] Work closely with your counselor to gather other information (including your grades) to send with your application.

December
[  ] Submit your applications.
[  ] Begin working with your parents on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (www.fafsa.ed.gov)
 
January
[  ] Submit your FAFSA.
[  ] Make sure your mid-year grades are sent to the schools you've applied to.
[  ] Verify the admissions offices have received all of the information that you've sent.
 
February
[  ] Receive Student Aid Report (SAR) based on FAFSA Submission.
 
March
[  ] Continue searching for scholarships or other forms of aid.
 
April
[  ] Receive decision letter from the schools to which you've applied.
[  ] Receive and review financial aid Award Letters.
[  ] Choose your school.
 
May
[  ] Find out what loans you may be eligible for.
 
June
[  ] Send your final transcript to your college.
 
July
[  ] Attend college orientation.
 
August
[  ] Be aware of due dates for tuition, room, and board.
[  ] Attend financial aid entrance interview.
[  ] Check with your Financial Aid Advisor on loan disbursement dates.
